Returning to Switzerland (deregistering from the register of the Swiss abroad)

You must complete various administrative formalities when returning to Switzerland.

Inform the Swiss representation where you are registered about your intended return. You can provide your new address using the online desk.

You may also need to inform the competent foreign authorities about your departure. The host country may require customs formalities to be completed and in Switzerland you will need to register at your new place of residence.

If members of your family are foreign nationals and require an entry visa or residence permit for Switzerland, please submit the visa applications well in time to the Swiss representation where you are registered.

Being well prepared will make your return to Switzerland a smoother process.

Documents deposited with a Swiss representation abroad

When returning to Switzerland do not forget to reclaim any certificates of origin you have deposited with the Swiss representation at the time of registration. You will need these documents when registering with the municipality of your place of residence in Switzerland.
